Victoria Falls
WHY TRAVEL HERE?
  • Known by the locals as “Mosi-oa-Tunya”, meaning “the smoke that thunders”.

  • Situated in the westernmost part of Zimbabwe where the mighty Zambezi is 1,700m wide at the point where it plunges from a maximum height of 107m into the gorge below.

  • The world’s largest falling sheet of water – during the flood stage, between March and May, as much as 5,000,000m³ per minute pass over the edge into the chasm creating spray as high as 500m in the air.

  • The misty walk through the rainforest provides some of the best views of the Falls, as well as some close encounters with wildlife such as mongoose, bushbuck, vervet monkeys and warthog.

  • Leisurely canoeing, horseback safaris, fishing safaris, helicopter or fixed wing flights over the Falls, sundowner cruises, game drives, guided walks and visiting Crocodile Ranch.

  • Adrenalin bungee jumping, gorge swinging, kayaking, microlighting, ultralighting, river boarding and white water rafting.

  • Elephant Hills Hotel Inter-Continental offers a memorable “safari-golf” experience.

  • Cultural activities include a visit to the Traditional Craft Village and African dance and drumming shows.

  • Superb culinary experiences at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge (be sure to reserve a table at the edge of the balcony), and at the award-winning Boma Restaurant. We would also highly recommend The Lookout Cafe and Dusty Road.

  • Casinos, bars and nightclubs provide entertainment later in the night and early hours.

  • The wet summer season from November to March is when the temperatures are hot (30°C), the sunsets are spectacular and thunderstorms light up the skies.

  • The dry winter season from May to September offers cooler temperatures averaging 20°C which can drop to 5°C at night – best for walking and game viewing.
